Katarína Poliačiková
After Felix Gonzales – Torres
We can talk about modification rather than appropriation- exhibited works could be considered as a specific shift, almost a deconstruction of their originals. Playing with initial forms, the artist put her own stories into works. Thus, to destruct means to reconstruct one's own memory.
A red pile of hand-wrapped pebbles that permanently cover the gallery floor is titled "Self-portrait 6. 6. 2008". Rocks are resembling candies – after you take one, the tempting mass turns into a big disappointment.
"Here and there" are two wall clocks showing different time. The difference of 9 hours means an immense distance, a long separation. The Lovers are not perfect anymore.
This situation communicates with the third work, titled "Him and me", which consists of two photographs projected onto the opposite wall. First shows the artist - someone had taken a picture of her as 4 years old while sleeping. On the other photograph there is the artist's boyfriend, as she took a picture of him, sleeping. The gap between these two shots is 22 years, but the bed sheets stay the same.
