The history of the Czechoslovak collection

Very early on, Sergio Tomasinelli turned his attention to Central Europe, driven by a deep-seated curiosity for art forms that were not widely disseminated outside their borders. In the 1970s, he came into contact with Jiří Kolář, a major figure in Czech visual poetry, whose work was then only visible in restricted circles. Their friendship was enduring, nourished by an exchange of letters, works and discreet gestures.  Away from official circuits, Tomasinelli patiently and respectfully accompanied, archived and shared.
This exhibition is a tribute to this persistent thread of silence, respect and loyalty.
An invisible loyalty.

Sergio Tomasinelli (1931-2018) was a dental surgeon in Turin and an art collector from the age of 23. It was a high school teacher, Brother Giocondino, who passed on to him a founding passion for beauty, sown in a generation of brilliant students. Throughout his life, he combined the demands of his profession with an intimate, persevering quest for works capable of conveying meaning, memory and poetic commitment.
In his archives and letters, we find traces of a sincere dialogue with numerous artists, often forgotten by official circuits, but bearers of a profound moral and aesthetic tension.
